Jason Helland grew up in South Dakota with a passion for two things: hockey and debate. Though he was never drafted into the NHL, debate fostered a desire to become a lawyer. After time in Minnesota for an undergraduate degree, his last hockey game, and experience working at a law firm helping low-income individuals, he headed west. Helland graduated from the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law in 2017 where he enrolled in classes focused on Estate Planning and Tax law.
Helland then gained experience learning about the law from a different perspective – that of those who write the laws. He has spent the last eight years working at the Colorado State Capitol learning how statutes are drafted and the legislative intent behind the laws. Now he focuses on bringing those life experiences to his clients to help them realize their estate planning goals.
When we lose a loved one, or see them incapacitated by age or injury, it’s hard to think clearly. The emotions are overwhelming, and the last thing we want is to be burdened with difficult decisions. Helland’s philosophy is to make sure those decisions are made ahead of time. That way, when you pass or are incapacitated, all your loved ones have to focus on is grieving your loss – and nothing else. Helland won’t consider a client taken care of until all those decisions have been made. From the big legal questions like how money will be transferred to easy-to-overlook questions like what was your Facebook password. He will make sure your family is taken care of.
